Cooling a warehouse can be complicated, especially when you have a large open warehouse that needs to be cooled. One of the reputed online fashion clothing dealers in Australia, who is also a part of the world’s leading online fashion house, the Global Fashion Group was extending its warehouse facility in Yennora, Sydney.  Spanning over 6500m2, the extended warehouse is a three storey building, for which an effective cooling system had to be designed and installed. Their existing facilities had problems pertaining to overheating and air circulation and so, the need to resolve the issue in their new warehouse.

Commercial Air conditioning Installation challenges faced by a large warehouse facility in Sydney

Unlike home air conditioning installation, commercial air conditioning installation poses unique challenges. The challenges at the online fashion
retailer were multiple and at the same time unique. The complexities increased manifold due to the presence of:

• Several aisles
• 3 Floors with grated mesh floorings
• Solid timber wood ground floor
• Smoke ventilation
• Heat extraction from high-level flooring

MojoAir jointly with Airius designed a customized solution

MojoAir, along with Airius designed an economically viable solution that ensures effective airflow movement within the warehouse, resolved the overheating problem, and optimized comfort for the workers in the warehouse.

Since large fans were unable to manage the airflow at comfortable levels, MojoAir engineers in coordination with Airius engineers arrived at a solution that was energy-efficient, offered effective air circulation, and at the same time did not impact mechanical ventilation needs.

Smart air cooling system

The sheer size and the complexities compromised the airflow circulation and penetration into the flooring with the standard fans, HVLS fans, or distribution through sheet metal duct system.

• Airius Sapphire Plus G400 EC fans were installed at a height from 12 meters from the finished floor. These fans offer efficient airflow with high velocity down to all three floors through the meshed flooring and ensure that all the floors including the lowest floor level are sufficiently cool. The fan speed can be controlled with speed controllers, which are installed on the ground floor close to the management desks.
• Airius G400 fans were installed in a way that adequate airflow was available to workers working on either side of the conveyor belt system. The fans were mounted at low levels horizontally to offer comfortable cooling in open space, pallet storage, and shelving.
• Installed small Airius Pearl series fans on the floor’s underside to keep the workers on the ground floor comfortable. Every 2 workers have 1 fan, offering spot cooling for the staff seating or standing on the ground floor. The speed is controlled through the speed controller.
• Sufficient air circulation was provided in the main corridors as well as walkaways. However, since there were a large number of aisles, it was not possible to install a fan over each aisle.

Airius fans worth $200000 were installed along with supplementary ventilation systems across 2 summers. Here’s how:

• 30 G400 Sapphire Fans
• 56 S1 Pearl Series Fans
• 9 Standard Series Fans (25EC)
• 1 Standard Series Fan(60 EC)
• 3 x Airius Potentiometers

In addition, other mechanical systems also offered cooling. These include:

• Installing of 18x fan to complement roof ventilators in eliminating high-level heat.
• 12x air louvers of 1200*1200 installed for low-level thermal comfort
• Installing of 4 roof-mounted fans for smoke clearance as specified in the fire engineering report.
• Installing 2 air makeup fans for high-level airflow for maintaining comfortable airflow.

Thus, MojoAir together with Airius provided a cost-effective, low energy cooling solution to the online fashion retailer’s warehouse facilities.
